The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) successfully organized an orientation session to officially welcome its incoming Level 100 students on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The comprehensive onboarding event was coordinated by the School Administrator, Ms. Empi Adwoa Baryeh, and was designed to integrate the freshmen into the academic and social fabric of the university.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of SPMS, Prof. Kwabena Doku-Amponsah, warmly welcomed the newly admitted students to the School. He expressed his confidence in the new cohort and encouraged them to strive for academic excellence, reminding them that they are now part of a community dedicated to scientific innovation, rigorous research, and problem-solving.
As part of the orientation, the Heads of Department (HODs) from all six departments within SPMS took turns delivering presentations on their respective disciplines. They outlined the core structures of their academic programs, graduation requirements, and the vast career opportunities available in the physical and mathematical sciences. The HODs collectively advised the students to remain focused, build strong foundational knowledge, and actively engage with faculty members.
Delivering her session, Ms. Empi Adwoa Baryeh guided the students through the essential administrative procedures of the School. She highlighted critical information regarding course registration, grading systems, and standard university regulations. Ms. Baryeh emphasized the importance of utilizing the official communication channels and assured the students that the administrative office is fully equipped to support their transition into university life.
There was an interactive Q&A session after the main presentations. The Level 100 students asked various questions concerning academic advising, accessing laboratory facilities, and navigating campus resources. The Dean, the HODs, and the School Administrator provided detailed responses to ensure all ambiguities were cleared and students felt confident starting their semester.
