You are welcome to the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Ghana’s website, a place where visitors can obtain relevant information about the School.  The School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, (SPMS) consists of six departments. The Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. These departments were carved out from some of the existing units in the then Faculty of Science to form the SPMS in August, 2014. We are one of the six constituting units in the College of Basic & Applied Sciences, CBAS of the university.

The various departments under the School have built enviable reputation, recorded greater achievements for being one of the providers of top quality education in the Sciences spanning over half a century in the country. The Departments under the school have helped to position the University of Ghana as the topmost university in the country and the 7th best in Africa. Our mandate is to help fulfill the aspirations enshrined in the University of Ghana strategic plan. Our objectives are as follows:

  • To provide Academic Excellence in Science Education, Research and Innovation
  • To enhance research and teaching capabilities of each unit to be centers of excellence
  • To build capacity in training more postgraduate students
  • To enhance Collaboration with public, academia and industry to achieve stated goals

SPMS is made up of the following Departments:
